We have an opportunity for a highly skilled CNC Machinist to support delivery of Prototype hardware components from Design to our product Validation teams.
Reporting to the Prototype Manufacturing Manager and working with our CAM Programmer, you will be pivotal in further developing our world class hydraulic systems & their applications, through machining 1off & low-volume components to the tightest of tolerances.
Working from both billet materials and AM (Additive Manufactured/3D printed) parts, you will manufacture a range of high precision products using our dedicated Prototype CNC machine tools for milling, turning, EDM & cylindrical grinding.
This is a day shift role working 08.00-16.30 Monday to Thursday and 08.00-14.00 Friday to form a 37.5-hour week. The role is based at the Domin Technology Centre, Pucklechurch, Bristol.
Key Responsibilities
- Machining of prototype hardware.
- Setting & operating CNC Milling machines, Lathes, Wire EDM & Grinding machines.
- Inspection of components to 2D drawing and / or 3D CAD model.
- Maintaining part traceability where necessary.
- Preparation of billet materials.
- Controlling stock levels of consumables for your area.
- Offering feedback on Design for Manufacture (DFM) for our design engineers.
- Work with a continuous improvement mindset to develop processes and drive efficiency.
Essential Requirements
- 3+ years’ experience of setting & operating multi axis milling machines & CNC lathes.
- Knowledge & understanding of Fanuc / ISO G code programming.
- Competency of using hand measurement tools (EG. micrometres, vernier callipers, etc.).
- Strong understanding of 2D drawings and GD&T principles.
- In depth knowledge of metal cutting tools & techniques.
- Proficient in machining & inspecting components to <10µ tolerance.
- Highly organized with great attention to detail.
- Adaptable and comfortable switching between varied, one-off jobs with frequent changeover, rather than repetitive production runs.
Beneficial Requirements
- Full online ISO/G-Code programming ability
- Experience with Sub-spindle lathes & live tooling
- Experience of machining Castings and/or AM components
- Wire EDM programming & operation experience
- Experience in setting & operating cylindrical grinders
- Operation of Heidenhain controlled milling machines
- CMM programming & operation
- Experience with Fusion CAM software.
